Supi Desu~~~~

First of all, congrats on finding this hidden about me!If you’re confused right now because you’re reading this from the page’s code, try grabbing the right-hand side of the page and sliding it to the left. :)

Hello visitor! I’m Cynthia, but most people call me Supi ^^ (Yes, pronounced like “soup” and the letter “e”) It comes from the shorten version of “Spirielle” pronounced in Japanese: “Supirieru”.

As you might have already noticed, I kind of fit with the common image of a “weeb” or “weeabo”. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to become Japanese or live in Japan. I love Quebec too much :D . However I do like Japanese animes, mangas, food and language. I’ve been trying to learn Japanese for a while now. I’m even taking courses! Because I’m often exposed to Japanese language I ended up using some words in my everyday life. I guess that makes me an eccentric person. :P

I’m also a proud gamer. Up until I met my husband, I’ve mostly played single player games on console. Now I’m mainly playing on PC and sometimes on Nintendo Wii U and 3DS. I love open world / survival / crafting / sandbox games. In this category my top 3 is Ark, Minecraft and Terraria. These days I play Osu!, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Path of Exile and Starbound.

Even though I love gaming, I don’t intend on working in this industry. However I like programming games for fun from time to time. I don’t have any big programming project ongoing, but I’m planning on making a static website generator for spirielle.com soon. I also want to contribute to open source projects and stack overflow more in the following months. Now that University is over, I should have some more time!

Thanks for visiting (^▽^)/

Hello I’m Cynthia! I’m a Canadian born in Montreal Quebec. My first language is French, but I’m also fluent in English. I do make grammar mistakes from time to time though, sorry about that (⌒▽⌒ゞ . It does not count yet, but I’m actively learning Japanese as well.

Initially, I studied graphic design at Cégep du Vieux Montréal. After 2 years, I switched to natural sciences and got my College Diploma 2 years later. Then, I went to Concordia University to complete a bachelor degree in Computer Science with a second major in Computation Arts. This program is really divided between the two fields. I spent half of my degree learning computer science theory while practising programming in different languages. The other half was about making video games, designing websites, playing with electronics, learning 3D modelling and much more. I’d say one side taught me how to think and what are the right practices while the other taught me to be resourceful.

While in Concordia I was part of the CO-OP program which allowed me to have internships during my degree. The first one was at Genetec in the Software Configuration Management and Tools team. Then I had an 8 month internship at ATHLETE RMS where I mostly worked with C#, ASP.NET and other web technologies.

From my experience, I realized that I’m really fond of code correctness, consistency and best practices. I love it when a piece of code is clear, straightforward, neat and/or shows signs of a thorough thought process. Elegant code is really what makes me passionate about programming, much more than the domain for which I program. It doesn’t matter to me if I work in the video game, medical or security industry. The most interesting part of my job has usually nothing to do with those fields. I do enjoy having visual feedback though and I love working with user interfaces.

Besides all that, I’m a really cheerful, enthusiastic and optimistic person! \(^▽^)/ I’m also excited about tons of things and I’m always eager to learn something new.

Also I’m a cat person.
